HIGHLANDERS HEAD TO LONGWOOD FOR FIRST-PLACE BATTLE ON SATURDAY NIGHT

In an early season first-place battle, Radford women's soccer wraps up its three-game road swing at in-state foe Longwood on Saturday, Oct. 5. Kickoff between the last two 3-0 Big South squads is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville, Va.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Senior Sahar Aflaki scored a goal in each half and the Radford defense locked down Campbell for 90 minutes in a 2-0 road win on Wednesday… Senior Rachel Conway assisted on the first goal and senior Che' Brown made four saves to earn the clean sheet.
 
A LOOK AT RU: Aflaki now leads the squad with four goals and has 21 for her career… Brown recorded her third clean sheet of the season and the 30th of her career… Brown has recorded a 0.62 GAA and .861 save percentage in 722:18 of action… RU is 9-1-2 in Big South regular season road games since 2011… Add the five neutral/away tournament games, RU is 13-1-3 with a shootout victory… The win extended the Highlanders' regular season league unbeaten streak to 14 (10-0-4)… 13 different Highlander have scored a goal this season… Senior Sydney Golden has been involved in four of RU's seven game-winning goals (two goals and two assists) and her other goal was the equalizer at Charleston Southern… Golden, freshman Melanie Priestley and senior Julie Ruh'e have dished out a team-best two assists … RU is on a streak of allowing two or fewer goals in a game over the last 28 matches and 41 of the last 43… The goal surrendered to CSU on Oct. 2 snapped a seven-match (4 reg. season/3 tournament) shutout streak against conference opponents and over 725 minutes of shutout soccer during that stretch… With four one-goal victories this season, Radford is 17-5 in one-goal contests since 2011… Dating back to the 2011 Big South championship game, the Highlanders have allowed just six goals (18 matches) to league foes, 14 of which have resulted in clean sheets.
 
THE LANCERS: Longwood (4-5-2) has recorded three straight shutout victories to start the conference season, including back-to-back 3-0 road wins at Winthrop and VMI… Only league squad not to allow a goal in conference play… Amanda Spencer paces the offense with a team-best six goals and 13 points… Gina D'Orazio has a team-high three assists… Shelby Hall has played all but 21:35 in goal with a 1.41 GAA, four shutouts and 43 saves.

THE SERIES: This will be the 11th meeting in the series with the Lancers holding a slim, 5-4-1 advantage… Last year, the teams played to a scoreless draw in Radford during the regular season and met again in the league semifinals with the Highlanders earning a 2-0 victory… RU, 1-3 in Farmville, won 1-0 the last time the squads met at the Athletics Complex in 2011... It was the first win for the program away from home.
 
THE SCHEDULE: Radford returns to Cupp Stadium and begins a season-long three-game homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 9 to host another instate foe, Liberty, at 4:00 p.m.
