LANCERS HOLD OFF HIGHLANDERS, 1-0

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. - Longwood scored just 32 seconds into Wednesday's match at Cupp Stadium, and the Lancers held up that lone goal throughout the remainder of the 90 minutes to post a 1-0 victory over Radford.

Anthony Ugorji's header found the back of the net when Radford goalkeeper Dane Wilson mishandled a cross from Ben Ferrell. Ugorli was there to put away his second goal of the season for the game-winner.

"Our first half was as poor as we have played since I have been here," Radford head coach Marc Reeves said. "We were better in the second half, but the tone was already set, and Longwood was tough to break down. They had a good game plan, it's a credit to them."

Both teams battled much of the first half in the midfield. Neither team mounted much momentum with the Lancers holding a slight 4-3 edge in total shots. Ugorji's goal was the only shot on frame in the first 45 minutes for either team.

"I was disappointed in our start," Reeves said. "We lacked energy and commitment, and that simply is not good enough."

The Highlanders showed much more effort in the second half. Radford outshot the Lancers 11-4 in the final 45, but Bernardo Ulmo's header was the only shot on goal, and Longwood keeper Carlos Canas was up to the task.

The loss drops Radford to 4-4-3 overall and 1-1-0 in the Big South. The Highlanders travel to Campbell on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. start against the Camels.

"We have to regroup and bounce back from this tough loss and get read for a very tough Campbell team," Reeves said.
