RADFORD SET TO BATTLE WINTHROP IN BIG SOUTH SEMIFINALS ON FRIDAY

Coming off a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Charleston Southern, top-seeded Radford takes on No. 4 Winthrop in the first semifinal of the 2013 Big South Women's Soccer Championship presented by Musco Lighting on Friday, Nov. 8 at 4:30 p.m. The semifinals and championship match will take place at CCU Soccer Field on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Highlanders scored a goal in each half and limited Charleston Southern to just three shots on goal in a 2-0 Big South quarterfinal victory on Friday evening at Cupp Stadium… Sydney Golden scored the game-winner in the 39th minute and Melanie Priestley tacked on an insurance goal in the 89th minute… Miranda Carlson set up Golden to earn her first collegiate assist… Rachel Conway and Sahar Aflaki assisted on Priestley's goal… Che' Brown made three saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

A LOOK AT RU
With the victory, the Highlanders recorded a 9-0-0 home mark and won their school-record 11th home game... It also concluded two consecutive undefeated seasons at Cupp Stadium (17-0-2)... It was RU's 15th victory, the second most in program history... Senior Sydney Golden's game-winner against CSU was her fourth of the season to go along with four game-winning assists... Melanie Priestley's seven goals are the most by a RU freshman since senior Julie Ruh'e tallied seven during her 2010 rookie campaign... 14 different Highlanders have scored a goal this season and 22 have recorded a point... Senior Che' Brown became just the second Highlander in program history to earn four first-team all-conference selections (Nikki Porter 2001-04).
 
BIG SOUTH ACCOLADES
Che' Brown was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season and third time in four years… Ben Sohrabi was tabbed Coach of the Year for the third time… Brown became just the second player in program history to earn four first-team nods… Brown is just the third RU student-athlete to earn 3-plus Player of the Year recognitions… Brown, Julie Ruh'e and Sydney Godlen were selected to the first team with Rachel Conway earning second-teams honors… Sahar Aflaki and Caitlin Annear garnered honorable mention  nods, while Britney Kendall and Melanie Priestley were named to the all-freshmen team.
 
BIG SOUTH TOURNAMENT
RU is now 19-11-5 in the Big South tournament and 18-9-4 under Ben Sohrabi… 5-5-2 in semifinal action… Defeated Longwood in 2012 semifinals, 2-0… Have won five tournaments (1998, 2002, 2008, 2011, 2012)… 3-1-1 as the No. 1 seed; Won 2011 title as top seed (2-0-1)… 9-6-3 in quarterfinals… Recorded a shutout in last five tournament games.

THE EAGLES
Winthrop advanced to the semifinals with a 4-3 shootout victory over No. 5 Coastal Carolina on Saturday… After a scoreless 110 minutes, Eagle keeper Amelia Henderson stopped the Chanticleers' last to penalty kicks to lift her squad to the win… She made a career-high 14 saves prior to the shootout… Henderson has posted a 1.12 GAA with 102 saves and an .836 save percentage… Winthrop's offense is paced by two-time Big South Attacking Player of the Year, Krystyna Freda, who leads the league with 17 goals and 38 points… Freda and defender Megan Pritts earned first-team honors… Okina Crawley was selected to the honorable mention team, while Macey Bosley took home an all-freshman nod.
 
THE SERIES
Radford owns a 7-4-1 lead in the series and is undefeated (3-0-1) the last four matchups… The Highlanders won 2-1 during the regular season… Melanie Priestley broke a 1-1 deadlock with a goal in the 64th minute… Radford took a 1-0 lead on a Rachel Conway penalty kick in the 41st minute… Grace Radler evened the contest just 41 seconds into the second half… Che' Brown made four saves, including a big stop in the 83rd minute… RU edged Winthrop, 1-0 in 2012 Big South Championship game
