TWO PROGRAMS RECEIVING NATIONAL ATTENTION SQUARE OFF IN BLACKSBURG

LISTEN LIVE

RADFORD, Va. -
Two teams off to hot early starts in 2013 meet Wednesday when Radford travels to Virginia Tech for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch at English Field. The Hokies are ranked No. 25 in the country, while the Highlanders, off to the second-best start in school history, are among teams receiving votes in the coaches' poll this week.

Radford (5-1) has won five straight games after an opening game loss in extra innings. The Highlanders swept previously unbeaten Kennesaw State in a three-game series on the road this past weekend. The 5-1 start ties the 2013 team with the 1997 and 1993 Highlander squads for the second-best start in school history. The 2008 team began its season 6-1, and with a win against the Hokies, this year's club can match the best start in school history.

Virginia Tech (7-1) is nationally-ranked and has won three straight after dropping its only loss to Temple after beginning the season with four straight wins. The Hokies have swept two-game series from Kent State, UNC Wilmington and Delaware. They also own a win over Holy Cross.

Wednesday's game will be the 47th meeting all-time between these schools. The Hokies own a 36-10 advantage in the series.

The probable pitching matchup for the contest is Dylan Nelson (0-0) vs. Sean Keselica (0-0). Nelson has made one appearance in relief for the Highlanders at Jacksonville. He worked 4.1 innings and surrendered two runs on five hits.

The broadcast of the game can be heard on www.radfordathletics.com with pregame beginning at 2:45. Mike Viso is set to bring you all the action from English Field.
