BOX SCORE 2 COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Radford was swept on a long day two of the Miken Maryland Invitational, falling to Ohio State and Binghamton by the scores of 5-2 and 4-3 (8 innings). The first pitch of the day was at 9:00 a.m. with the Highlanders and Bearcats starting three hours late and finishing on Sunday morning at 12:23 a.m.
Radford will get right back at it, closing out play with Iowa at 9:00 a.m.
Ohio State 5, Radford 2
Ohio State jumped out to a 4-0 lead and Olivia O'Reilly struck out 15 as the Buckeyes defeated Radford, 5-2.
A three-run home run by Leesa Gresham gave Ohio State a 3-0 lead in the third. An error and a misplayed bunt put the first two runners on prior to Greshman's shot to leftcenter.
The Buckeyes added another run in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Taylor Watkins.
After being held to one hit through 5.2 innings,
Jessica Agee roped a RBI double to the centerfield wall that put the Highlanders on the board. Freshman
Emily Naegele dropped the next pitch just inside the rightfield foul line to plate Agee and cut the Buckeye's lead to 4-2.
OSU got one back on a two-out run-scoring double in the button half of the frame.
Freshman
Rachael Walters suffered the defeat. She surrendered three runs, two earned, in two-plus innings of work with two strikeouts. Senior
Jackie Jenkins closed out the final four innings, allowing a pair of runs on five hits.
O'Reilly allowed three hits, two runs and walked three.
Binghamton 4, Radford 3 (8)
Radford dropped a 4-3 contest in eight innings to Binghamton in the final game of day two.
After the Highlanders (3-11) failed to score in the top of the eighth, the Bearcats (4-7) loaded the bases with an infield single and an intentional walk. The next batter hit a chopper to second that was misplayed and the runner from third crossed the plate with the winning run.
Naegele gave Radford an early 2-0 lead with a two-run long ball to center in the first. Freshman
Becky Mantel, who singled with one out, scored on Naegele's second home run of the season.
The Bearcats scratched across a run in the fourth without a hit and then took the lead on a two-run homer by Lisa Cadogan.
Following a two-out error to load the bases and extend the inning, freshman
Whitney Davis beat out an slow chopper to even the game at three in the bottom of the sixth.
Naegele and Mantel each recorded two hits and scored a run. Mantel reached base in all four plate appearances with a walk and hit by pitch.
Walters took the loss in defeat. She did not allow and earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Freshman
Allie Reid (Lovettsville, Va./Woodgrove) started and went three-plus, surrendering two earned runs on three hits. She struck out two and walked five.
