BIG SOUTH PLAY OPENS AS VMI VISITS RADFORD FOR THREE-GAME SERIES

RADFORD, Va. - The Radford baseball team will play host to VMI this weekend beginning Friday evening as Big South competition begins with a three-game series at RU Baseball Stadium. First pitch on Friday is set for 5:00 p.m., which is a new time moved up because of expected cold temperatures. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1:00. Sunday's game has been moved up to Saturday in anticipation of rain in Radford.

The Highlanders and the Keydets have been playing each other since the 1987 season, and Radford holds a 22-18-1 series advantage. The two teams have not met since the 2011 season because of a scheduling quirk in the 2012 campaign.

VMI enters the series with a 6-12 record, but coming off a 6-2 victory over William & Mary on Wednesday which snapped a four-game losing streak. The Keydets swept a two-game series earlier in the season with Maryland-Eastern Shore, which is their only series win of the season.

Radford comes into the series off its best offensive showing of the season, a double-header sweep of Iona where the Highlanders pounded out 22 runs and 22 hits in a 12-1, 10-1 series sweep. RU stands at 8-7 overall and owns series sweeps on the season over Iona and Kennesaw State.
