SCHEDULE ALTERED FOR RADFORD INVITATIONAL; SUNDAY GAMES CANCELED

With wintery weather on the way Sunday, the schedule for the Radford Invitational has been altered. Sunday's contest are canceled. Radford and Binghamton will play an additional game today at approximately 5:30 p.m. 
 
LAST TIME OUT: Fueled by a pair of two-run home runs and a five-inning shutout relief effort, Radford rallied from a 3-0 deficit and defeated Liberty, 6-3, in the Big South opener at RU Softball Field on Wednesday… Junior Jessie Hutchens' blast cut Liberty's lead to 3-2 and senior Jessica Agee's long ball gave Radford the 6-3 advantage… Freshman Rachael Walters shut down the Lady Flames with five innings of shutout ball… She struck out four and allowed just four infield singles… Hutchens, freshman Emily Naegele and senior Morgan Eye each had two hits.
 
RU TIDBITS Radford has won three straight and five its last six contests… The Highlanders won their fifth straight Big South Opener and extended their regular season home winning streak over Liberty to 13 games… Eye, Naegele and senior Ryndee Ruch extended their hitting streaks to seven (tie), six and five games respectively, all career highs... Agee's long ball on Wednesday was the first of her career… Hutchens' round tripper was her team-leading fourth… Naegele has scored in five straight games (six runs) and Hutchens has knocked in 10 over the last seven.
 
THE INVITATIONAL: This is the seventh installment of the Radford Invitational…  The Highlanders have won five of six with Harvard (2009) being the only guest to claim a title… There have been three no-hitters since the inception of the tournament in 2004… Two of those have come behind the arms of Radford's Bre Felix (perfect game in 2004 against UMES) and Kellie Snooks (2010 Championship game vs. Kent State)… RU has won 12 straight contests and is 24-3 all-time… They have gone undefeated in 2006, 2011 and 2012.

THE BEARCATS: This is the second straight season Binghamton ventures to Radford for the Invitational with the Highlanders winning both contests, 6-5 and 1-0 in 2012… Last weekend, BU went 2-1 at the JMU Invitational with a pair of wins over Detroit, and has won four its last six… Lisa Cadogan tops the offensive charts with a .375 average, seven doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI… Demi Laney is 2-3 with a 3.97 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 49.1 innings… Rhoda Marsteller and Kate Price also have two wins apiece.
 
THE GOLDEN FLASHES: This will be the second appearance for Kent State in the RU Invitational… The Golden Flashes were runners-up in 2010, falling to the Highlanders 6-0 in the title game… KSU last played at the Winthrop Invitational (March 8-10) and went 3-2 with wins over Western Illinois, North Carolina A&T and Delaware State… The Golden Flashes have won five of their last seven… Dani Ramos leads a trio of .300 hitters with a .321 average and eight runs scored… Kim Kirkpatrick (.302) leads the team with 12 runs and has knocked in seven, whilel Abbey Ledford has a team-best nine RBI… Emma Johnson is 6-6 with a 1.78 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 70.2 innings… Teams are batting just .193 against her.
 
THE SERIES: Radford is 3-1 against Binghamton and 3-0 versus Kent State… The Bearcats defeated the Highlanders, 4-3 in eight innings, on March 9 at the Miken Maryland Invitational… Radford took two games at the 2010 RU Invitational by the scores of 3-1 and 6-0.

UP NEXT: Radford heads to Farmville, Va. on Wednesday, March 27 for a single Big South contest against league newcomers, Longwood at 4:00 p.m.
