THIRD TIME IS THE CHARM - HIGHLANDERS SET FOR HOME OPENING SERIES VS. ST. JOHN'S

RADFORD, Va. - After needing to cancel its originally scheduled home opener vs. Liberty, and then moving last weekend's home series to English Field at Virginia Tech, the Radford baseball team will host St. John's in a three-game set this weekend to christen RU Baseball Stadium for the 2013 season. The Highlanders and the Red Storm will begin the series Friday at 3:00 and continue Saturday at 2:00 and Sunday at 1:00 on the Radford campus.

Radford and St. John's have never played each other in baseball. The Highlanders enter the series having dropped four straight games and 5-5 on the season. St. John's is 1-10 on the season with its only win coming at Georgia Tech. The Red Storm have played a tough schedule of Southern opponents thus far this season such as the Yellow Jackets, North Carolina, East Carolina, Merce, and Florida Gulf Coast. SJU also played Ohio State.

After beginning the season with an impressive series win at Jacksonville and an even more impressive sweep at Kennesaw State to equal the second-best start in school history at 5-1, the Highlanders returned to Southwest Virginia and dropped four straight games on Virginia Tech's campus - a single game vs. the Hokies, and the displaced home series vs. Rider.

Game 2 - Saturday, 2:00 p.m.

Game 3 - Sunday, 1:00 p.m.
Keith Fritz [RU] 1-0, 2.12 ERA vs. Ryan McCormick [SJU] 0-2, 4.91 ERA
