BROWN RECOGNIZED AMONGST NCAA’S BEST GOALKEEPERS FOR 2013

“I think it is a definite honor for Che' and our program to be mentioned with so many other great players and programs,” commented head coach Ben Sohrabi.

Brown enjoyed one of the finest individual single-season performances ever delivered by a Highlander. She broke the league's single season record for shutouts (13), a mark that had held up for 17 years. In addition to being named Big South Defensive Player of the Year and Tournament MVP, Brown set the school record for career shutouts (27), surpassing RU Hall of Famer Peggy Poore's mark of 26 posted in 1985.

“Che' has made some big-time saves in big-time games for us, but I definitely see it as an honor for our defense, team, and our goalkeeper coach (Chris Barrett),” said Sohrabi. “We take a lot of pride in not giving up goals and we hope to continue that trend. In the end, it does show that the hard work pays off. “

A third-team all-region selection, Brown ranked 11th and 21st in save percentage (.880) and goals against average (0.63), respectively. She served as the last line on a defense that did not yield a goal in over 660 minutes of action and ranked third in the NCAA in shutout percentage (.667). The rising-senior culminated her season with a career-best 11-save performance against eventual National Champion North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

If you take into account that there are 325 teams in Division I and each team has a minimum of two goalkeepers, Brown is being recognized as a top-10 keeper out of approximately 650.
