The preseason games are now in the books, and head coach Marc Reeves and the Radord men's soccer team open the regular season Friday evening at defending Big Ten champion, Penn State. First kick is set for 7:00 p.m. at Jeffrey Field in University Park, Pa.
"Penn state has a great program and excellent coaches that we know will have their team ready to play opening night," Reeves said. "We have had a solid preseason and look forward to this tough start to challenge our players and see where our team stands at this point."
LAST TIME OUT: RU ended its preseason schedule with a 2-1 home victory last Saturday over Virginia Tech. Freshman Garland Smith scored a goal and had an assist in the win. The Highlanders also played #25 Virginia in the preseason with the Cavaliers scoring a 2-0 win in Charlottesville.
ABOUT THE NITTANY LIONS: Penn State went 1-1-1 in three preseason exhibition matches. The Nittany Lions defeated Nebraska-Omaha (1-0), tied Maryland (1-1), and lost to Navy (2-1). PSU posted a 9-5-3 overall record a year ago, including a 7-2-2 mark at home.
SEASON OPENERS: Radford is 2-0-1 all-time under Reeves in season openers. A year ago, the Highlanders tied UMBC on opening day.
