WOMEN'S SOCCER HOSTS TOWSON IN HOME OPENER ON FRIDAY

Radford opens its 2013 home slate welcoming Towson for a non-conference contest on Friday, Aug. 30. The matchup at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
 
Friday's game will be broadcast for free on the Big South Sports Network.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Radford is coming off a 1-1 tie at Villanova last Friday in its season opener… Senior Sahar Aflaki netted the first goal of the season off and assist from classmate Julie Ruh'e… Senior keeper Che' Brown made five saves
 
A LOOK AT YOUR HIGHLANDERS: The one goal allowed against Villanova  extended a streak of giving up two or fewer goals in the Highlanders' last 20 matches and 34 of their last 36…Aflaki netted her 18th career goal, while Ruh'e dished out her 15th career helper... The draw extended Radford's regular season unbeaten streak to 15 matches (10-0-5) dating back to a 3-1 win over Old Dominion on Aug. 31, 2012… The Highlanders will take on those same Monarchs this Sunday… RU has won its last four home openers and is undefeated in the last five (4-0-1)… Overall, Radford is 20-8-4 in home openers , 16 thanks to a clean sheet… The Highlanders are 6-2-2 in Cupp Stadium openers, all six victories via the shutout… RU is 20-5-6 in games decided by two goals or less since 2011, 13-4 in one-goal contests... The Highlanders were 8-0-2 at home last season.
 
THE TIGERS: Towson split on its opening weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision to Loyola in its opener before bouncing back with a 3-0 triumph over Iona on Aug. 25… Emily Banes has registered two goals and an assist in the first two contests… Katie Ponce and Katlyn Axenfeld have also scored for the Tigers.

THE SERIES: Radford owns a 4-0-1 all-time record against Towson… The squads last played on Oct. 20, 2002 in Towson with the Highlanders coming out on top, 2-0… Kelly Bertwell and Nikki Porter each netted a goal, while Samantha Woods made four saves… The last time they met in Radford it was a 2-2 draw… Bertwell and Porter also scored in that contest… The Highlanders are 2-0-1 at home against the Tigers.
 
UP NEXT: Radford heads to Norfolk, Va. for its annual contest with Old Dominion. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
