HIGHLANDERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED WITH 6-0 WIN OVER SOUTHERN VIRGINIA

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. – Radford women's soccer remained undefeated with a 6-0 win over Southern Virginia, Friday evening from Cupp Memorial Stadium.  Five different Highlanders (4-0-1) found the back of the net, including a pair from sophomore Jasmine Sampson in Radford's final non-conference home game.

Sampson's first two goals of her collegiate career were back-to-back strikes that ignited a three-goal second half surge and doubled Radford's first-half lead over the Knights (1-3) to 6-0.

The barrage came during a 3:19 span started by Sampson in the 69th minute. Sophomore Sally Dillinger played a through ball into the box and Sampson slotted into the lower left corner for her first collegiate goal. Just over two minutes later, Sampson created her own shot and fired her second goal of the night into the upper left hand corner from 22 yards.

Freshman Britney Kendall closed out the trifecta of goals in the 72nd minute, finishing a perfect feed from classmate Ashley Whited. It was Kendall's second goal in as many games and Whited's first career assist and point.

Radford outshot Southern Virginia, 24-2 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Lauren Markey made one save as she made her first collegiate start and played the first 60:15. Freshman Sydney Chervenic closed out the match in her first minutes of collegiate soccer.

The win extended the Highlanders' undefeated regular season and home streaks to 19 and 13 matches, respectively. It is also the best undefeated start since 1993 (10-0).

The Highlanders took a 3-0 lead into the break on goals from senior Sydney Golden, senior Julie Ruh'e and sophomore Micaela Filsoof. Radford recorded all 11 shots and four corner kicks.

Golden broke the scoreless deadlock converting a penalty kick in the 11th minute. It was her second goal and game-winner of the year and Radford's third successful penalty kick this season. Ruh'e doubled the lead in the 17th minute when she ripped a low shot into the left side of the goal from the top of the 18 after taking a slip from freshman Melanie Priestley. It was Priestley's second helper in as many contests.

Filsoof closed out the first half scoring, blasting her first collegiate goal over the keeper in the 33rd minute. Senior Torrie Jackson assisted on the goal.

Radford closes out non-conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at William & Mary. Game time scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
