ULMO AND MAYER LEAD RU TO VICTORY OVER GEORGIA SOUTHERN

BOX SCORE ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Bernardo Ulmo's game-winning goal in the 69th minute helped lead Radford to a 2-1 victory over Georgia Southern on Friday at the UNC Asheville Invitational. Joe Mayer also tallied his team-high fourth goal of the season in the 4th minute for the Highlanders.

Mayer gave the Highlanders an early lead taking a lead pass and assist from Jamie Summers and breaking RU on top with the game's first shot taken.

"We obviously started very well and had plenty of great chances the first half to put the game further away," head coach Marc Reeves said. "Both goals were calmly taken, but we had plenty of other great looks at goal."

Radford led 9-3 in shots in the first half, but held on to the slimmest lead at 1-0. That changed quickly in second half. Georgia Southern scored the equalizer less than 10 minutes after intermission.

"We again showed that who starts the game for us is not the most important factor as we got strong performances from players off the bench," Reeves said, and on this day, it was Ulmo who came off the bench to provide the winning margin for the Highlanders.

Nico Valencia and Bismark Amofah assisted Ulmo on a breakaway which gave the Highlanders a 2-1 lead that they would make stand.

"It is not always easy to play a day game at a neutral site, so to find a way to win was an important factor today," Reeves said. "Georgia Southern is a well coached and talented team was very good in the second half."

Radford improves to 2-2-1 with the win and will play Howard at noon on Sunday in its final game at the UNC Asheville Invitational.

"We need a quick physical recovery and good mental focus to be ready to play again Sunday," Reeves said.
