BOX SCORE
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Radford goalkeeper Dane Wilson recorded his first shutout of the season, and Joe Mayer and Jamie Summers each scored goals in a 2-0 victory Sunday over Howard as part of the UNC Asheville Invitational.
The Highlanders dominated play and outshot the Bison 22-5, however, despite having control of the match in the first half, the teams went to the intermission scoreless.
Mayer changed that with his team-high fifth score of the season. Summers and Luis Grande handed out assists on the goal that would serve as a game-winner. Summers added an insurance goal with 20 minutes to play on a header that was assisted by Nico Valencia and Dario Redondo.
"This was a pleasing and professional performance from our group today," head coach Marc Reeves said. "We showed patience and passed pretty well to work plenty of good opportunities and score two good goals. Credit to Howard, which made it tough and was a threat on the counter, but I thought we defended pretty solidly also for the majority of the game."
The Highlanders were the only team to finish undefeated in the invitational after Georgia Southern defeated UNC Asheville following the RU / Howard match. Four Highlanders were named to the all-tournament team: Mayer, Redondo, Bismark Amofah, and Jo Vetle Rimstad.
