MAYER EARNS BIG SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Big South Conference today named Radford men's soccer student-athlete Joe Mayer as its Attacking Player of the Week for games played Sept. 16-22. Mayer scored a goal in each of the Highlanders' wins over Georgia Southern and Howard at the UNC Asheville Invitational.

Mayer's goal in the 55th minute of the Howard victory served as the game-winner in a 2-0 triumph for the Highlanders. Against Georgia Southern, he gave the Highlanders a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute en route to a 2-1 win in the opening game of the invitational.

For his efforts, Mayer, along with teammates Bismark Amofah, Dario Redondo, and Jo Vetle Rimstad, earned all-tournament honors at the UNC Asheville Invitational. Radford was the only team to post a 2-0 record in the event.

Radford head coach Marc Reeves said, "Joe's work last spring and over the summer months has seen him start the season well. He is a very talented player, and I believe now is seeing the reward for doing more of the team details. I am happy for him and know he would be the first to credit his teammates for their part in this recognition."

With five goals on the season and now 12 points scored, Mayer is tied for second in the Big South for goals and alone in second in points scored.
