SOHRABI EARNS 200TH VICTORY AS HIGHLANDERS RALLY PAST CSU, 2-1

Senior Sydney Golden Scores Equalizer and Sets Up Game-Winner

BOX SCORE CHARLESTON, S.C. – Head women's soccer coach Ben Sohrabi earned his 200th win as his Highlanders (6-1-1, 2-0 Big South) rallied from an early deficit to pick up a tough Big South 2-1 road win at Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon from Blackbaud Stadium.

Junior Kara Wade completed the comeback with an early second half goal (51') that was set up by senior Sydney Golden, who netted the equalizer in the first period. The victory extended Radford's unbeaten streak in league play to 13 matches (9-0-4).

On a short free kick by Golden (pictured right) from the left of the 18, Nay cleaned up a loose ball from five yards after it deflected off the keeper's hands for her first strike of the season.

"It was a great come-from-behind road victory," commented Sohrabi. "I was proud of our resilience. We need to finish our chances a bit better, but I'm happy with the result."

Sohrabi, the winningest coach in the Big South, has won 181 of those contests while guiding the red and white for 18 seasons. His first 19 victories came during his two-year stint at Lambuth.

"I've shared a lot of these wins with a lot of great alums," said Sohrabi. " It's an honor to reach this milestone. I couldn't think of a better group to celebrate this accomplishment with."

Radford didn't panic after it fell behind for just the second time this season, 1-0 in the fourth minute on a goal by Chelsea Frankeny. Toni Lashley intercepted the ball and found Frankeny with a service from the left wing on the Buccaneers' (3-6-1, 0-2) first shot at 3:05. She finished from six yards for the first goal by a Big South opponent against the Highlander defense in over 725 minutes. It snapped an impressive streak of seven shutouts (4 regular season/3 tournament matches) that dated back to Oct. 13, 2012 when Radford and Winthrop played to a 1-1 draw in Rock Hill, S.C.

The Highlanders settled down after the Buccaneers recorded the first five shots of the game and ended up out shooting them 11-9 in the first half and 26-17 for the match. However, Radford came out with just the one-goal win as CSU keeper Dan McLaughlin stood tall with 17 saves.

Following that surge, Radford peppered McLaughlin with eight straight shots with the final one by Golden finding the back of the net in the 30th minute. Junior Stephanie Herb assisted on the short corner as Golden connected from 15 yards.

Senior Che' Brown made four first-half saves to keep Radford within striking distance and finished with five as the defense stepped up in the second half and then held off a furious CSU flurry in the final minutes to close out the victory.

Radford continues its three-game Big South road swing on Wednesday at Campbell. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
