LIBERTY KICKOFF RECAP
Highlighted by five victories and a student-athlete tying the pole vault school record, the Highlanders set the tone for what hopes to be a successful indoor season.
Â
Picking up season-opening wins were junior Vincent Wyatt (men's 60-meter hurdles), senior Courtni Pannell (women's 60-meter hurdles), freshman Steven Graham (men's 400-meter dash), freshman Anthony Aviles (men's high jump) and the men's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Trey Pressley, Alhaji Bah, Cory Dunn and Joseph Betts.
Â
THERE HE GOES AGAIN
For his first-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles at the Liberty Kickoff, junior Vincent Wyatt was named the Big South Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Â
Wyatt, who holds all 10 of the program's top times for the 60-meter hurdles, won the event by covering the distance in 8.08 seconds. He crossed the line in 8.04 seconds in the prelims to qualify for the finals. Wyatt's qualifying time is tied for 26th in the nation.
Â
An All-American last season, Wyatt is striving for a return to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Student-athletes with the top 16 times for the 60-meter hurdles at the conclusion of the indoor regular season punch their ticket to Albuquerque, N.M.
Â
YOU SAY SHE'S A FRESHMAN?
Freshman Tess Rogers wasted little time in raising eyebrows in her first meet as a Highlander. The Lawsonville, N.C. native tied the pole vault school record at the Liberty Kickoff with a mark of 10-feet 6-inches to place third. Her measurement is tied for seventh among Big South competitors entering this weekend's action.
