WILLIAMSON NAMED BIG SOUTH WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. For the first time in her career, junior distance runner Teresa Williamson has been selected the Big South Choice Hotels Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week as announced by league officials Wednesday afternoon.

Friday night at the Hokie Invitational, Williamson broke Kara Price's program record in the mile by reaching the finish line in 4:57.95. Her pace was the third-best in the race and the second-best among Big South competitors this season. The previous mile record (5:01.48) was set by Price at the 2001 Big South indoor championships.

One day after setting the mile record, Williamson ran the 800-meter race in a personal-best 2:16.51. In addition to placing fifth in the event, Williamson's time is the second fastest in the Big South and ranks fourth in program history.

The Highlanders are taking this week to train in preparation for their next meet, the Akron Invitational, which is scheduled for Feb. 7-8 and hosted by the Zips at Stile Athletics Field House in Akron, Ohio.
