ASHEVILLE SCORES EARLY AND DEFEATS HIGHLANDERS, 1-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Katie Tarto scored in the 11th minute and UNC Asheville held on for a 1-0 victory over Radford on Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

Tuarto gave the Bulldogs (7-6-1, 2-3-1 Big South) their early 1-0 lead, heading home an Amanda Nailor corner kick for the game's lone strike. Heather Muller kept the Highlanders (6-6-2, 3-2-1) off the board with eight saves and was helped out when a redirected corner kick in the first half was cleared of the line by one of her defenders.

Asheville would take that lead into half as the Highlanders held an advantage in shots, 6-3, but all four that were on frame were kept out, three by Muller. The Highlanders had a golden opportunity to even the contest in the 20th minute, but Asyia Mitchell's redirect of a corner kick was cleared off the line by an Asheville defender.

Muller made four more saves in the second half, including a denial of Radford's best second-half chance when she tipped Jordan Lundin's scorching far post header over the crossbar in the 75th minute.

Katie McCormick, who entered late the first half, did not allow a goal and made five saves in the final 56 minutes.

The Highlanders out shot the Bulldogs, 13-9, which included nine on target.

Radford concludes its three-game road swing at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
