RADFORD FALLS AT GARDNER-WEBB, 2-0

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Radford's road struggles continued Wednesday night as the Highlanders dropped a 2-0 decision at Gardner-Webb in Big south play. The loss was the third straight for RU, all road games, and moved its record to 6-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference action.

Gardner-Webb struck quickly just 1:10 into the game when Shelby Hooe outran RU goalkeeper Katie McCormick to a loose ball in front and found the net with the game's first shot. The Highlanders pressured offensively for the better part of the first half, but could not chart an equalizing goal. RU outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs 9-6 in the first 45 minutes and 5-3 on goal, but Hooe's score stood up.

Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi said his team played just average on the road. "We played average and average doesn't get results. Gardner-Webb defends well with a lead, and we have to not dig ourselves a hole in the first two minutes of the game."

Tori Donahue led the RU offense with three shots. Asyia Mitchell tallied two chances, both on goal, but GWU keeper Krista Chauvin was up saving all six shots the Highlanders put on frame. Radford outshot Gardner-Webb 13-12 for the 90 minutes.

McCormick made seven saves in net for RU. Gardner-Webb's Haley Ahrenholtz put the game out of reach in the 65th minute when she put home a deflected ball inside the six-yard box to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

Radford returns home Saturday night to Cupp Stadium for Senior Night. The Highlanders play host to High Point for a 7:00 p.m. start.
