FINAL BIG SOUTH ROAD CHALLENGE AWAITS MEN'S SOCCER AT GARDNER-WEBB

|
LIVE STATS

Radford travels Saturday to Gardner-Webb (2-10-1, 0-4-1) in its final road trip of the regular season for a 4:00 p.m. in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Highlanders (9-3-2, 6-0-0) are looking to remain perfect in Big South play and can achieve the best conference start in school history with a victory. The 2012 RU squad opened the league schedule with a 6-0-1 record through its first seven games.

9603"We know Gardner-Webb is always a tough opponent and that road conference games are never easy," Radford head coach Marc Reeves said. "However, our group is anxious to get back playing after Tuesday night's result, and we have been focused with our preparations in order to be ready to perform well in our final road game of the regular season." The Highlanders had their 11-game unbeaten and seven-game winning streak snapped Tuesday at nationally-ranked Virginia.

Radford has won four straight in the series against the Runnin' Bulldogs, including an overtime road victory in the opening round of the Big South Tournament last season. The Highlanders have eliminated GWU in the opening round in each of the past two seasons. The all-time series is tied, 5-5-1.

SCOUTING THE RUNNIN' BULLDOGS
Gardner-Webb is among a group of teams battling to earn a berth into the Big South Tournament. The Bulldogs trail UNC Asheville by a single point and Campbell by two for the eighth and final spot on the bracket. While garnering just two wins in the regular season, GWU did post an exhibition win over Wake Forest earlier this season. Offensively, Ali Al-Gashamy is one of the league's most potent scorers with six goals and four assists for 16 points on the season.

THE HIGHLANDERS
Currently ranked ninth in the NSCAA South Region poll, the Highlanders are looking to get back on the winning track after falling Tuesday at Virginia for the first time in 12 games. RU boasts the Big South's toughest defense with a 0.89 goals against average. Individually, Aitor Pouseu Blanco is the only goalkeeper in the conference with GAA below a goal at 0.89. Kieran Roberts and Stephen Hudgens remain tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with three apiece. Each of them leads the team with five goals on the season.

"I think our seniors understand the importance of this game and as a whole group I believe we are excited to get back playing," Reeves said.
