SCHEDULE CHANGE AT FROST CLASSIC

Due to inclement weather, Radford's opening game at the Frost Classic against Middle Tennessee has been moved to 6:30 p.m. from the original 11:00 a.m. start time. The contest against Austin Peay remains at 4:00 p.m.
 
Last Time Out – Radford rallied from a 4-1 first-inning deficit and then held on for a 6-5 win at Charlotte on Wednesday… Sophomore Hayley Tabora tied it with a three-run double in the third… Freshman Julie Gardner put them ahead for good with a solo blast to lead off the fourth… RU used four pitchers with sophomore Rachael Walters earning the win, tossing two scoreless & hitless innings (3rd & 4th) with two strikeouts… Freshman Abby Morrow earned the save, allowing an unearned run in the seventh… Senior Jessie Hutchens and Gardner each had two hits… Sophomore Becky Mantel scored two runs.
 
Highlander Bites – Radford won its first season opener since defeating Georgetown in 2008… Gardner doubled in her first collegiate at bat and homered in her second… That was Tabora's first collegiate extra base hit and RBIs… Sophomore Megan Honaker's double in her first at bat was her first collegiate extra base hit… Junior Kelsey Weddle, Gardner, Morrow, and four more freshman made their Highlander/collegiate debuts against the 49ers… Weddle struck out the first batter she faced and finished with three in two innings… Mantel was hit on the first pitch of the game after getting plunked a school record 20 in 2013 and sits in third on the career list… Freshman Augusta Clarke stole second in her first college attempt.
 
The Blue Raiders – Middle Tennessee (4-6) has won three straight winning their final three games at the UCF/Holiday Inn Classic… They defeated UI-Chicago and Florida A&M twice… Kayla Toney paces the offense batting a team best .394 with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored… Three pitchers have seen action  with Shelby Stinnett making a team-best eight appearances, posted a 1-2 record with a 2.66 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 26.1 innings… The teams have met twice with RU winning the last meeting, 5-2 in Clearwater, Fla. (3/13/10)… MT won 1-0 on Feb. 22, 2004.
 
The Governors – Austin Peay (2-8) was swept in a doubleheader at Samford on Wednesday, 11-1 and 6-5… Lauren de Castro is batting .300 and scored four runs, while Mel Pavel has a team-best six RBI… de Castro (7.77 ERA) has both wins and a staff-best 17 strikeouts in the circle… The Governors own the only victory in the series, a 3-1 victory on Feb. 23, 2003.
 
The Bulldogs – Butler (2-6) dropped all four games at the Woo-Pig Classic hosted by Arkansas and have lost five straight… Brandyce Sallee is batting .360 (9-25) with two doubles, six RBI and three runs scored… Kristin Gutierrez (1-2, 4.50 ERA) and Leah Bry (1-3, 6.08) pace the staff with 20 and 26.2 innings pitched, respectively… Bry has a team-high 29 strikeouts… This is the first meeting.
 
The Moccasins – Chattanooga is coming off a big weekend in Las Vegas as it picked up three wins over Portland State, Nevada and BYU at the UNLV Tournament… The Mocs bat .283 as a team with five batters hitting .308 or better… Anyssa Robles owns a team best .414 average with five RBI… Sam Taylor (.367) and Sarah Beth Roberts (.348) have scored eight and seven runs, respectively, while Criket Blanco has a team-best eight RBI… Taylor Deason (2-3, 1.57 ERA) paces the staff with 19 strikeouts in 23 innings… This is the first meeting between the teams.
 
The Golden Eagles – Tennessee Tech is coming off its first win of the season defeating Kennesaw State, 9-3 in the hosts' own tournament… Kendall Hopper bats a team-best .320 with a triple and three runs… Olivia Bennett bats .300 and is tied for a team-high four RBI… Danielle Liberatore has started five games and is 1-3 with a 5.11 ERA, 15 strikeouts in 24.2 innings.… The Golden Eagles own the only win in the series, defeating the Highlanders, 5-2 in 1999.
 
The Series – Following a sweep by the 49ers in Charlotte last season, Radford is 9-15 against the 49ers… The Highlanders dropped a pair of one-run contests last season, 1-0 and 5-4.
 
Up Next – Radford returns to the New River Valley for a midweek game at Virginia Tech on Wednesay, Feb. 26 at 5:00 p.m.
