THROWERS HEADLINE DAY ONE OF VT CHALLENGE

 

RESULTS

BLACKSBURG, Va. –
Radford track and field opened competition at the VT Challenge, Friday, highlighted by notable efforts from its throwers.
 
MEN'S WEIGHT THROW
Tyler Lamott took home the best finish by a Highlander tonight, heaving a 54-03.75 mark (PR) to secure third place. Despite remaining eighth in the Big South rankings, Lamott increased his season-best throw by nearly a foot.
 
WOMEN'S WEIGHT THROW
A trio of Highlanders landed in the top 10 for this event. Ashlen Veatch led the way with her fifth-place toss of 55-04.75. Jazmine Banks (54-01.00) and Brianna Young (51-11.75) finished seventh and ninth, respectively, behind PR performances.
 
WOMEN'S 60-METER HURDLES
Courtni Pannell missed the final by .07 of a second, placing 11th with her 8.79 dash. Monica Mallory established a PR in the event with a 9.59 sprint to the finish line.
 
MEN'S 60-METER HURDLES
Ashad Johnson-Conley qualified for the finals after stopping the watch at 8.34 to finish sixth. He placed seventh in the finals with an 8.48 effort. Victor Brew (8.53) and Logan Shumaker (8.94) set PRs in the prelims.
 
WOMEN'S 60-METER DASH
Kaleice Green (7.93) and Shantel Jones (8.08) crossed the line in 15th and 20th, respectively, behind two PR sprints.
 
WOMEN'S MILE
Lowering her PR by nearly 20 seconds, Madeline Thomas finished seventh by reaching the finish line in 5:19.74. Courtney Burton also posted a top-10 finish thanks to her PR pace of 5:25.74.
 
MEN'S MILE
Following the women's lead, the Highlanders also notched a pair of PRs on the men's side. Nearly six seconds separated Joey Hannah from a top-10 showing, covering the distance in 4:27.41. Harrison Murn completed the mile in 4:36.80.
 
WOMEN'S 3,000-METER RUN
Placing 15th and setting a PR was Courtney Rice, who circled the oval in 10:44.72. She was the lone Radford runner competing in this event.
 
MEN'S 3,000-METER RUN
Ryan Farnan ran a season-best 8:32.55 to tally a fourth-place showing.
 
MEN'S TRIPLE JUMP
Chris Johnson leaped a personal-best 45-10.50 to take fourth place. With his jump, Johnson moves to 10th place in the Big South rankings.
 
DAY TWO PREVIEW
Radford returns to Rector Field House, Saturday, to wrap up its final regular season meet. The women's high jump and seeded pole vault kick things off at 11 a.m. Live results will be available at this link.
