WILLIAMSON, HICKEY SHINE FOR HIGHLANDERS AT VT CHALLENGE

RESULTS

BLACKSBURG, Va. –
Teresa Williamson and Katie Hickey both broke the previous school record for the women's 800 meters to close the regular season with a bang for the Radford track and field team Saturday at the VT Challenge hosted by the Hokies inside Rector Field House.

WOMEN'S 800-METER RUN
Williamson and Hickey turned some heads in the first track event of the day. With three school records already to her credit this season, Williamson added the 800 meters to her collection by running a 2:12.01. Not only was that good enough to beat Virginia Tech's Shalonda Mitchell by .56 of a second, but her time eclipsed Amy Gediman's school record 2:15.29, which was set at the 2003 Big South indoor championships. Based on her performance, Williamson climbs to second in the Big South rankings entering the conference championships.

However, Williamson was not the only one making headlines in the event. Hickey, who was running unattached, knocked nearly 20 seconds off her personal best to finish fourth in the race at 2:13.66. That being said, the school record would have been broken even if Williamson did not run. Malina Richardson also ran in the event, reaching the finish line in a personal-best 2:20.71.

MEN'S 800-METER RUN
Although no school records were broken on the men's side, Chaz Porter and Eric Graves posted a pair of top-10 performances. Porter stopped the watch at 1:55.96 (PR) to finish seventh, while Graves placed 10th with a 1:56.67 pace.

WOMEN'S 1,000-METER RUN
Courtney Burton improved her PR by over four seconds (3:14.34) to take 10th place.

MEN'S 1,000-METER RUN
Taking 12th place with a time of 2:37.18 was Chris Weeks, who lowered his PR by three seconds.

MEN'S SHOT PUT
Garrett Knudson hoisted a season-best throw of 48-03.50 to place fifth and remain 11th in the Big South rankings.

WOMEN'S SHOT PUT
A trio of Highlanders charted top-10 finishes, led by Naihla Rose-Delia's sixth-place toss of 40-08.75. Jazmine Banks ended in seventh place with her 40-00.50 mark, while Brianna Young launched a 39-03.25 mark to take ninth place.
