ANOTHER SCHOOL RECORD BROKEN ON FINAL DAY OF AKRON INVITATIONAL

AKRON, Ohio
– Radford's Teresa Williamson collected her third school record and Vincent Wyatt won his fourth race of the indoor season as the Highlanders delivered an impressive showing Saturday at the Akron Invitational hosted by the Zips' track and field program inside Stile Athletics Field House.
 
MEN'S 60-METER HURDLES (GOLD DIVISION)
Ashad Johnson-Conley and Logan Shumaker set PRs by clocking 8.24 and 8.98 times, respectively, in the prelims. Joining Johnson-Conley in the finals was Wyatt, who ran a 7.84 to top the qualifying heat. In the championship heat, Wyatt cruised to his fourth victory in as many starts by reaching the finish line in 7.86. Johnson-Conley placed fourth by improving his PR to 8.19. Following their performances in Ohio, Wyatt and Johnson-Conley rank first and fourth, respectively, in the Big South for the 60-meter hurdles.
 
WOMEN'S 3,000-METER RUN (GOLD DIVISION)
For the second straight day and third time this indoor season, Williamson ran a school-record time. The junior jetted around the track in 9:51.60 to place second, only three seconds behind Anna Lamb of Miami (Ohio). Her performance marks just the second sub-10-minute run for the event in program history. Williamson's time replaces Lori Crotts' 9:58.62, which had been the record since Feb. 5, 2010. It is also the second-fastest pace among Big South runners, only trailing Liberty's Jacy Christiansen's 9:45.98.
 
WOMEN'S 5,000-METER RUN (BLUE DIVISION)
Behind her personal-best pace of 18:55.29, Madeline Thomas won her first event of the season. She shaved over 14 seconds off her season-best time, and now ranks fifth in the Big South.
 
MEN'S 5,000-METER RUN (BLUE DIVISION)
In his first action of the day, Harrison Murn raced his way to a PR (9:29.31) to place fifth.
 
WOMEN'S 3,000-METER RUN (BLUE DIVISION)
Emily Marshall stopped the watch in a personal-best 10:49.36 to claim sixth place. Running alongside her teammate was Courtney Rice, who crossed the line in 10:54.38 to finish 12th. Rice improved her PR by over 30 seconds.
 
WOMEN'S 400-METER DASH (BLUE DIVISION)
A pair of Highlanders established personal records in this event as Michelle Speede (58.93) and Cara Myrtle (59.49) reached the finish line in eighth and 11th, respectively.
 
MEN'S 800-METER RUN (BLUE DIVISION)
Behind PR performances from each runner, Chaz Porter (1:56.90), Eric Graves (1:56.92) and Joey Hannah (1:59.89) concluded the race in fifth, sixth and 10th, respectively. With his showing in Akron, Porter climbs to 10th in the league standings for the event.
 
WOMEN'S 800-METER RUN (BLUE DIVISION)
Malina Richardson narrowly missed a top-10 performance, but did deliver a PR by covering the 800 meters in 2:22.97.
 
MEN'S 400-METER DASH (GOLD DIVISION)
A personal-best 48.48, which is the second-fastest time in the Big South for the event, propelled Joseph Betts to a sixth-place showing. His time also ranks fourth in the program's record books.
 
WOMEN'S 4x400-METER RELAY (GOLD DIVISION)
Cara Myrtle, Courtni Pannell, Danyelle McDaniel and Reanna Hamm improved their season-best time by combining for a 4:05.74 relay to place 10th. After removing five seconds off their previous-best time, the Highlanders now rank seventh in the Big South standings for the event.

WOMEN'S WEIGHT THROW (BLUE DIVISION)
Ashlen Veatch smashed her previous PR by sending out a 56-03.00 mark, which was fourth in the finals and ranks third among Big South throwers.
 
WOMEN'S SHOT PUT (BLUE DIVISION)
Naihla Rose-Delia ranks seventh among Big South throwers after her 43-01.50 toss. The freshman placed third in the finals to notch her season-best finish.
 
MEN'S SHOT PUT (BLUE DIVISION)
Garrett Knudson produced his season-best toss of 47-11.75 to take sixth place. His mark ranks ninth in the Big South.
 
UP NEXT
The Highlanders head to Rector Field House for the third time this season when Radford competes in the VT Challenge hosted by the Hokies in Blacksburg, Va. The two-day meet begins Feb. 21.
