ROBINSON, MORROW, HUTCHENS KEY 6-3 WIN OVER SAVANNAH STATE

AUBURN, Ala. – Freshman Summer Robinson broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run home run in the fifth, classmate Abby Morrow struck out nine in scoreless relief and senior Jessie Hutchens launched a pair of long balls, keying Radford to a 6-3 comeback win over Savannah State in its second game on day 2 of Auburn's War Eagle Classic at Jane B. Moore Field.
 
With the score knotted at 3-3 and two-out in the fifth, Robinson cranked her first collegiate home run over the fence in left, completing RU's comeback from a 3-1 deficit and sending the Highlanders (6-14) to their second win of the day.
 
Morrow, who came in with two outs and a runner on second, in the third, was almost untouchable in her outing. Following a groundout to end the third, she went on to strike out a career-best nine batters over the final 4.1 innings., including the side in the fifth and sixth innings.
 
The rookie allowed one hit in the top of the seventh and did not walk a batter to earn her first collegiate victory.
 
Hutchens finished 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBI, while Robinson went 2-for-3 with a run a three RBI. Hutchens has now homered in five of her last nine games and sits tied for 10th on RU's all-time home run list with 21.
 
The comeback started in the third when Hutchens crushed her second solo home run of the game into the leftfield parking lot. The long ball was her sixth of the season as Hutchens became the 20th Highlander to send two over the fence in one game.
 
Hutchens tied the game in the fourth when she was intentionally walked with the bases loaded. Unable to capitalize with the bases loaded and one out, Robinson's heroics came an inning later. Her first long ball led off the bottom of the first when she crushed a 3-0 pitch into the creek deep behind the centerfield fence.
 
Savannah State (11-11) grabbed a 3-1 lead with a 3-run burst in the top of the third. A two-run triple by India Morgan and a RBI double by Amber Hallman highlighted the Tigers' inning.
 
Despite being held to five hits, Radford batters drew seven walks and were hit twice. Sophomore Rachael Walters starter and allowed three runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. She struck out five and walk two.
 
Radford closes out the War Eagle Classic tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. against IPFW.
