RU COMPLETES BIG SOUTH SERIES ROAD SWEEP OVER BUCS

BOX SCORE |

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Radford used a six-run fourth inning Sunday to take the lead for good and complete a three-game sweep of Charleston Southern at CSU Ballpark, 8-2. James Woods (3-0) worked 4.1 innings in relief of starter Ryan Meisinger to record the victory and push the Highlanders to 14-9 overall and 5-1 in the Big South.

Trailing for the first time in the series, 1-0, Radford put together four straight singles to open the sixth inning from Hunter Higgerson, Zach Woolcock, Chris Coia, and Blake Sipe to tie the game. Aaron Scoville was hit by a pitch to give the Highlanders the lead, 2-1. Josh Reavis singled throught the left side of the infield to stretch the lead to 4-1, and Patrick Marshall extended to 6-1 with the sixth base hit of the inning.

Meisinger went 4.2 innings and gave up just one earned run and four hits in a quality start for RU. Woods earned the win holding the Buccaneers scoreless for the remainder of the game with only two hits allowed.

Radford added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth on Higgerson's RBI single and a steal play that plated a run with Coia caught in a run-down between first and second.

"We made the most out of every opportunity to score runs today," RU head coach Joe Raccuia said. "We beat a good baseball team this weekend. Sweeping a team is really hard, especially on the road."

Higgerson and Coia each collected three hits in five at bats. Marshall and Woolcock each finished 2-5 as Radford pounded out 13 more hits, all singles.

The Highlanders won for the fifth time in six games and held on to at least a share of the lead in the Big South North Division race. RU is scheduled to play at James Madison on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. start.
