BASEBALL CLOSES HOMESTAND WITH BRYANT THIS WEEKEND

Riding a five-game winning streak, Radford Baseball closes out its eight-game homestand with a three-game series against Bryant, March 7-9 at RU Baseball Stadium. First pitch for the three games are scheduled for 4:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.

Saturday – RU: Michael Boyle (0-2, 8.74) vs. Bryant: Kevin McAvoy (0-1, 4.82)
Sunday – RU: Ryan Meisinger (1-0, 3.07) vs. Bryant: Kyle Wilcox (0-0, 2.25)

Recap – Radford extended its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of Temple on Wednesday… The Highlanders (7-6) upended the Owls (1-7) by the scores of 6-3 and 3-1 in a pair of seven-inning games… Both contests featured a critical three-run inning for RU… In game one, a two-run double by Hunter Higgerson broke a 1-1 deadlock in a 3-run fifth and RU went on for the victory… Alexander Lee went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the opener… The Highlanders scored three unearned runs in the first and held on for the 3-1 win in the nightcap… Josh Gardiner, Nygeal Andrews and Higgerson knocked in the first-inning runs… After allowing five hits in the first two innings, RU pitchers surrendered just two the rest of the game… James Woods and Tyler Swarmer collected thw wins, respectively... Andrews (1.1 IP, 2K) and Michael Costello (1.2 IP, 2 K) recorded the respective saves.

Notables & Numbers – Lee's career-high four-hits in game one was his seventh multi-hit game of the season and his hitless game two was just the second one in 12 games this season… Lee ranks third in the Big South in batting (.444), hits (20) and on base percentage (.510), fifth in doubles (5) and sixth in slugging (.556)… Dylan Nelson is ranked second in wins (3)… Ryan Meisinger is third in strikeouts per nine innings (11.66)… Andrews went 1-for-2 in game two, keeping his average at .500 (6-12).
