HUTCHENS' LONG BALL LIFTS SOFTBALL OVER TOWSON, 2-1, IN 11

BOX SCORE ELON, N.C. – Jessie Hutchens launched the game-winning home run in top of the 11th as Radford edged Towson, 2-1, on Saturday evening at Hunt Softball Park on the campus of Elon University.

The senior shortstop went 3-for-5, recording half of the Highlanders' six hits and scored both runs. The game-winning long ball, her second of the season, came with one-out in the 11th.

Hutchens' heroics were due in large part to the combined effort in the circle from freshman Abby Morrow and sophomore Rachael Walters.

Walters (4-2) earned the win tossing the final four innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two. Morrow went the first seven and surrendered a run on four hits with three strikeouts. Neither pitcher issued a walk and the duo allowed just four base runners (3 hits, 1 error) the final 10 innings.

Towson drew first blood in the bottom of the first on a RBI double by Hailey Balk. Olivia Yarbrough scored on the play and finished the game 4-for-5.

The Highlanders evened the contest in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Hayley Tabora that plated Hutchens, who led off the frame with a single.

Freshman Summer Robinson, sophomore Casey Burns and sophomore Whitney Davis (double) also recorded hits for the Highlanders.

Radford returns to the field tomorrow facing Towson at 10:30 a.m. and host Elon at 3:30 p.m.
