WILLIAMSON CAPTURES 1,500-METER TITLE AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

RESULTS

ROCK HILL, S.C. –
Led by two All-Big South performances by Teresa Williamson, Radford closed out day three of the 2014 Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of Winthrop University.

Due to wet conditions, the men's and women's pole vault, and men's high jump will finish Monday, beginning at 2 p.m. Postseason Big South awards will be announced Thursday.

WOMEN'S 1,500-METER RUN
Running the fourth-fastest time in program history, Williamson claimed the gold medal by clocking a 4:39.28. She ran the first two laps with the pack, but showed her trademark burst in the third lap to pull away from her competitors. It was her third Big South title this year, accompanying her 3,000 and mile gold medals from the indoor championships.

Based on her Top-3 finish, Williamson becomes the Highlanders' first female outdoor all-conference performer and Big South champion since 2011 (Aimee Veatch, hammer throw).

WOMEN'S 800-METER RUN
Williamson delivered her second all-conference run just one hour later when she crossed the line in 2:18.21 to take second. The junior finished two seconds behind top seed Meghan Burggraf of Liberty. After hanging back during the first lap, Williamson made her move with 600 meters to go, but could not quite catch Burggraf.

MEN'S 5,000-METER RUN
Behind a season-best 14:54.76, Ryan Farnan finished seventh. Harrison Murn also competed, running a 16:22.11.

WOMEN'S 5,000-METER RUN
Shaving 10 seconds off her PR, Madeline Thomas ran an 18:34.58 to claim 17th.

WOMEN'S DISCUS
Brianna Young smashed her PR by 10 feet, unleashing a 125-05 throw to claim eighth. It was an impressive showing for the freshman, which entered as the 17th seed. Young just missed the final by one foot.

MEN'S DISCUS
Garrett Knudson recorded a season-best 130-06 to place 14th.

MEN'S TRIPLE JUMP
With a 41-03.75, Cory Dunn earned a ninth-place finish. Although he entered as the 13th seed, Dunn was able to record a Top 10 by delivering a mark in his second attempt.
