HOKIES RALLY FOR EIGHTH INNING COMEBACK OVER RADFORD, 8-5

BOX SCORE BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech (14-12-1) rallied for five runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning to post an 8-5 come-from-behind win over Radford (15-12) at English Field on Wednesday night. The game was held up for 20 minutes in the inning with the scored tied when the lights lost power forcing the delay.

RU used eight pitchers on the night, but Michael Costello gave up a single, a walk, and another single in the to begin the eighth before being lifted for Kyle Zurak. Zurak faced one batter, Mark Zagunis, who tied the game with a two-run single, before the lights went out. He returned after the delay to walk Brendan Hayden, and then Sean Keselica delivered another two-run single to give the Hokies the lead for good. They added another run in the inning to make the final 8-5.

Radford brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but Hunter Higgerson struck out swinging to end the game.

The Highlanders took the lead with an unearned run in the first, but gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the same inning.

Virginia Tech took the lead in the third on the first two-run single of the night for Zagunis. The Hokies led 3-1 until the Highlanders tied it in the fifth.

Patrick Marshall, who ended up leading the team with four hits on the night (4-5) drove in his second and third runs of the game with a two-run double. Radford took the 5-3 lead it would carry into the eighth in the sixth inning. Aaron Scoville reached on an RBI fielder's choice and an error on the play allowed another run to plate.

Costello (2-1) suffered the loss going just a third of an inning and giving up three runs on three hits.

Alexander Lee and Chris Coia each collected a pair of base hits for the Highlanders.

Radford travels to Winthrop for a three-game Big South series starting Friday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
