TRACK AND FIELD WRAPS UP HIGHLANDER INVITATIONAL IN STYLE



RESULTS

RADFORD, Va. –
A program record, three titles and a USATF junior national qualifier highlighted Saturday's action for Radford track and field at the Highlander Invitational at Cupp Stadium.
 
WOMEN'S 100-METER HURDLES
On the strength of the third-fastest sprint in program history (14.07), Jessica Shelton placed second in the event and qualified for the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, which will be contested July 5-6 in Eugene, Ore.

 

MEN'S 110-METER HURDLES
Vincent Wyatt logged the third-fastest time in program history (13.78) to win his eighth individual title of the year.

 

MEN'S POLE VAULT
Josiah Brunson broke the program record by clearing the bar at 4.35 meters, up from the previous mark of 4.26 meters done by John Uhler in 2007.
 
MEN'S 400-METER DASH
Joseph Betts clocked a PR by reaching the finish line in 47.69 to claim second.

 

WOMEN'S SHOT PUT
Naihla Rose-Delia (11.97m) and Maggie Kooken (11.71m) registered a pair of PRs to place fourth and eighth, respectively.

 

WOMEN'S LONG JUMP
Claiming runner-up honors was Jamiecka Baker with her 5.30-meter jump. Also competing were Monica Mallory (4.91m) and Morgan Harris (4.75m), who established PRs to take fifth and eighth, respectively.
 


WOMEN'S TRIPLE JUMP
Harris finished third with a 10.59-meter mark, which is a PR for the freshman.
 
MEN'S 1,500 METER RUN
Ryan Farnan knocked over two seconds off his previous PR with a 3:57.93 pace to take fourth.
 
WOMEN'S 1,500-METER RUN
Running the third-fastest time in program history for this event, Teresa Williamson clocked a 4:34.79 to secure third. In the second heat, Courtney Burton (12th), Madeline Thomas (13th) and Courtney Rice (15th) were able to set PRs.

 

WOMEN'S HAMMER THROW
With her 51.79-meter toss, Ashlen Veatch claimed a runner-up showing.

 

MEN'S 800-METER RUN
Chaz Porter stopped the watch in 1:54.00 to post a PR and earn fourth.
 


MEN'S HIGH JUMP
Kenneth Jordan cleared the 1.88-meter mark to notch a PR and place sixth.
 
WOMEN'S HIGH JUMP
Finishing second in the event, Katy Harriman improved her PR by clearing the bar at 1.58 meters.
 
MEN'S 4x400-METER RELAY
The quartet of David Green, Kenneth Jordan, Vincent Wyatt and Joseph Betts took the gold with their 3:23.35.

Radford will compete in last-chance meets over the next three weeks as the Highlanders vie for qualifying times/marks for the East Region outdoor track and field championships at the end of May in Jacksonville, Fla.
