HUTCHENS & DAMERON KEY SENIOR DAY WIN OVER GARDNER-WEBB

BOX SCORE

Steph & Jess GWU
and Stephanie Dameron were honored prior to the game and then played key roles in the victory. Hutchens went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Dameron closed out the final 2.1 innings. She scattered three hits, struck out one and surrendered an unearned run.

In addition, Hutchens' long ball was the 17th of the season and 32nd of her career, moving the catcher into second and a tie for third in those respective categories. She is now one behind the single-season leader Nichole Beall ('12) and tied with Hope Creasy ('10) all-time. Hutchens also jumped into tie for second and ninth on the single-season (48) and career (117) RBI lists.

Freshman Summer Robinson went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore Becky Mantel was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

Home runs by Robinson and Hutchens staked Radford to a 3-1 lead after three innings. Robinson's third of the season, a two-run, two out shot to left center, erased a 1-0 deficit in the second. Hutchens added to the lead with a leadoff round tripper in the third.

A four-spot in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single by Hutchens, broke the game open. A successful squeeze by sophomore Becky Mantel and an RBI ground out by Nia Chiles plated the first runs of the inning. Following a pitching change, Hutchens smoked the ball back up the middle to make it 7-1.

Following a run by GWU in the top of the sixth, RU added the final two runs of the contest on a two-out, strike three wild pitches that kept the inning alive.

Sophomore Rachael Walters picked up the win with 2.2 innings of scoreless and hitless relief. She struck out two and walked one. Freshman Abby Morrow started and allowed a run on four hits in two innings of work.

Radford hits the road for its final five games, starting with a twinvill at Virginia Tech on Wednesday, April 30 at 4:00 p.m.
