MARSHALL'S BIG NIGHT LEADS RU PAST DUKES

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. - Patrick Marshall (4-4) collected his second four-hit game of the season, including his third home run, a double, and three RBI, as Radford disposed of James Madison, 14-5, Wednesday night at RU Baseball Stadium. Marshall led an 11-hit attack for the Highlanders, who won their second straight game and moved to 17-14 overall.

Marshall drove in the game's first run with a single in the first inning. Zach Woolcock followed with the first of his two hits on the night to drive in a run, and Blake Sipe drew a bases loaded walk to give the Highlanders a 3-0 lead. JMU starter Dylan Horne lasted just one-third of an inning, but did not take the loss as the Dukes offense took him off the hook.

James Madison immediately answered with three runs in the top of the second. Kevin Husum singled home two runs to tie the game and chase RU starter Tyler Swarmer after just 1.2 innings. Kyle Weston had driven in the first JMU run earlier in the inning on his only base hit of the night.

Both bullpens were used extensively in this one. JMU sent eight arms to the mound. Patrick Toohers (0-4), who gave up a lone run in the bottom of the second after relieving Horne, took the loss. No Dukes pitcher worked over 2.0 innings, but the staff walked 10 batters and hit two on the night to go along with the 11 hits for RU.

Radford used six pitchers in the game that nearly lasted 3.5 hours. Mitchell MacKeith (2-1) spelled Swarmer and went 3.1 innings to earn the victory. Four other RU hurlers worked an inning each, Kyle Zurak, James Woods, Michael Costello, and Austin Ross.

"What impressed me the most was our guys taking some RBIs that were given to them instead of trying to do to much," Radford head coach Joe Raccuia said. "It wasn't just about swinging the bats, but our execution was pretty good tonight."

The Highlanders remain at home for a Big South series against Coastal Carolina, which begins Friday at 6:30 p.m.
