HIGH POINT UPENDS RU IN SERIES OPENER, 10-8

BOX SCORE HIGH POINT, N.C. - Radford (25-19, 10-9) stormed to a 5-2 lead through four innings only to see High Point (25-16, 12-7) rally for a 10-8 victory Friday night in the series opener between these Big South North Division rivals. The teams were tied heading to the bottom of the seventh, but the Panthers scored three times with two outs to take the lead for good.

Patrick Marshall drove in three runs for the Highlanders on a pair of hits, including a double. Hunter Higgerson ran his conference-leading RBI total to 41 with a run-scoring single in the first and a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Josh Gardiner scored three times and led the game off with a double. His bases-loaded walk in the seventh tied the game off the nation's leading ERA pitcher, Conor Lourey.

Lourey (7-0) gave up three runs, two earned, to raise his ERA above 1.00 for the first time this season, but despite giving up the lead, earned his seventh victory of the season logging 3.0 innings and striking out eight RU batters Michael Costello (2-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits in working the bottom of the seventh for the Highlanders.

Marshall, Higgerson, and Alexander Lee each had two hits to lead the Radford offensive nine-hit attack. Josh Spano finished 3-5 with three RBI to lead a 13-hit attack for the Panthers.

The two teams play the middle game of the series at Williard Stadium on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
