HIGH POINT DEALS RU OPENING ROUND LOSS, 3-2

BOX SCORE ROCK HILL, S.C. - High Point (32-20) overcame a 2-0 Radford (32-22) lead with two runs in the sixth and the go-ahead and winning run in the seventh to post an opening round 3-2 victory past the Highlanders in the Big South Tournament at Winthrop Ballpark.

Radford opened the scoring in the fourth when Zach Woolcock plated Shane Johnsonbaugh with a single to right field. With two outs, Johnsonbaugh walked and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Woolcock came through with his 20th RBI of the season to give RU a 1-0 lead. That lead grew to 2-0 in the sixth when Patrick Marshall led off the half inning with a double to straight-away centerfield. He eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexander Lee.

The Panthers had an answer in the bottom of the sixth. Brady Williamson led off with a triple off RU starter Michael Boyle and scored on an RBI single by Spencer Angelis. HPU then tied the game when Josh Spano lined a single into left field that was misplayed by Marshall and the error allowed Angelis to round the bases from first to even the game.

High Point took the lead for good in the seventh. Chris Clare was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to third on a sacrifice and throwing error by Hunter Higgerson. Willimason singled him home, and HPU advanced in the winner's bracket.

Conor Lourey (9-0) worked 3.0 innnings in relief of John McGillicuddy to earn the win. He gave up two hits and struck out four. Daniel Bridgeman (3-2) took the loss for Radford.

RU will play an elimination game vs. Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
