RADFORD SEASON ENDS IN 4-3 LOSS TO LIBERTY

BOX SCORE ROCK HILL, S.C. - Radford's record-setting season came to a close in the early hours of Saturday morning with a 4-3 loss to top-seeded Liberty in the Big South Tournament at Winthrop Ballpark. With the final out recorded just prior to 1:00 a.m., the Highlanders end their season with 33 victories and the sixth straight winning season, both school records.

Ryan Seiz hit a one-out solo home run to centerfield in the bottom of the eighth off RU reliever Mitchell MacKeith to give the Flames the victory. Ashton Perritt worked a scoreless ninth inning for Liberty to save the win, his 12th of the season. Shawn Clowers (9-0) was victorious on the mound working 4.0 innings of two-hit shutout baseball.

Radford scored all three of its runs in the second inning. Alexander Lee plated on a balk by LU starter Parker Bean, who lasted just 1.1 innings before being lifted. Zach Woolcock came home on a wild pitch, and Chris Coia's squeeze bunt scored Danny Hrbek to give Radford a 3-0 lead.

Liberty's Alex Close cut the lead to 3-1 with a leadoff home run in the bottom half of the second. The Flames tied it in the fourth on a two-run single by Dalton Britt.

Radford starter Tyler Costello, making his final start as a Highlander, went 6.1 innings and threw 120 pitches and did not factor in the decision. He gave up three runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out eight. James Woods relieved him for one batter, retiring the 23rd straight left-handed batter he faced to end his career as a Highlander as well. Lee finished his career 1-4 with a run scored.
