RADFORD WINS SERIES AT HIGH POINT, 8-3 IN SUNDAY'S FINALE

BOX SCORE HIGH POINT, N.C. - Radford (27-19, 12-9)  completed winning the final two games of the Big South series at High Point (25-18, 12-9) on Sunday with an 8-3 truimph over the Panthers. Tyler Swarmer (2-0) won his first career conference start, and Josh Gardiner delivered a three-run triple to lead RU to the victory.

The Highlanders broke open a pitching duel between Swarmer and Andre Scrubb with four runs in the fourth inning. Blake Sipe's RBI sacrific fly gave RU the lead, and Gardiner later cleared the bases with a triple to the right field corner. It was all the offense Swarmer and three Highlander relievers would need.

Swarmer pitched to contact in 5.0 innings of work as he gave up just one run on three hits. He failed to record a strikeout and walked four batters, but twice got out of bases loaded jams to keep the Panthers at arm's reach all day. High Point outhit Radford 11-9, but stranded 15 base runners and defensively committed two errors that led to two unearned runs for RU.

Josh Reavis drove in a run with a sac fly in the sixth followed by a Hunter Higgerson two-run base hit, and Radford built a 7-1 lead and cruised from there. The Panthers came within an batter of bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Ryan Meisinger induced a double play to end the game in a non-save appearance.

Zach Woolcock collected three hits, including a double. Gardiner had a pair of hits as well. Brady Williamson finished 4-4 for HPU with an RBI.

Radford travels to UNC Asheville next weekend for its final road series of the year. The opening game of the three-game set against the Bulldogs is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 p.m.
