ALL-DECADE TEAMS FOR WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ANNOUNCED

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Shemelia Brandon and Tiffany Evans represented Radford on the Big South all-decade teams for women's outdoor track and field, which were released Wednesday by the conference office.

As part of the Big South's 30th anniversary celebration in 2013-14, the conference is announcing its all-decade teams to recognize student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport since the conference's founding in 1983. A committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the all-decade teams, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.

Women's outdoor track and field became a conference sport in 1994. Each all-decade team features eight sprinters, eight distance runners, eight jumpers, six throwers, two heptathletes (2000-09 only) and one head coach. In case of ties, additional honorees were included.

A four-time Big South champion and an eight-time all-conference performer in the long jump, the triple jump and the 4x400, Brandon was a premier jumper for the Highlanders from 2006 to 2009. She leaped a 19-07.50 (long jump) at the 2006 Big South championships, and a 42-01.75 (triple jump) at the 2008 Big South championships, which are both school records.

Evans was one of the best throwers to ever come through RU and the Big South. A six-time Big South champion and a nine-time all-conference honoree in the shot put, the hammer and the discus, Evans left her mark while competing for the Highlanders.

She has all of the top 10 shot put marks in program history, including the school-record toss of 51-00.75 at the 2007 Big South championships. In addition, Evans owns the school record for the discus (148-04.00), which she delivered at the 2007 Winthrop Invitational.
