SEASON-BEST EFFORTS DELIVERED ON FIRST DAY OF VIRGINIA CHALLENGE

RESULTS

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
A pair of season-best performances were manufactured by Radford track and field Friday as the Virginia Challenge got underway at Lannigan Field on the campus of the University of Virginia.

Ashlen Veatch added nearly one foot to her season-best throw in the women's hammer to place third out of nine competitors. The sophomore hoisted a 172'8" mark.

In the men's 400, Joseph Betts sprinted around the track in 47.53 to take fifth out of 20 entrants. His season-best time, which ranks seventh in program history, beat the 47.69 he clocked at the Highlander Invitational two weeks ago.

Also competing this evening was Courtney Rice, who finished fifth in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with her 11:44.99. Her performance was the seventh-best time in program history.

Competition continues Saturday with four Highlanders in action. Vincent Wyatt is the first on the track when he runs in the prelims of the men's 110-meter hurdles at 4:45 p.m.
