WYATT ADVANCES TO 110-METER HURDLES FINAL AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

RESULTS

EUGENE, Ore. –
Radford's Vincent Wyatt ran a 13.73 in Thursday's semifinals of the men's 110-meter hurdles to punch his ticket to the final at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships contested at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

The junior placed second in heat three and seventh overall. There were a total of 24 competitors divided into three heats. The top two times in each heat, along with the next two fastest times, moved on to Saturday's championship race.

"It's hard to put into words what this feels like," hurdles coach Mark White said. "To have an opportunity to run for a national championship is surreal. All the hours of practice, lifting and everything else Vincent does to prepare himself has gotten him to this moment. He is very deserving of this opportunity."

In addition to Wyatt, seven other finalists are set to run for the national championship, which is scheduled for 6:12 p.m. ET (3:12 p.m. PT). Defending champion Wayne Davis II of Texas A&M delivered the fastest time of the semifinals with a 13.36. Southern California's Aleec Harris, who ran beside Wyatt in heat three, clocked a 13.39 to take second. Devon Allen (Oregon, 13.52), Eddie Lovett (Florida, 13.53), Greggmar Swift (Indiana State, 13.57) and Trey Holloway (Hampton, 13.70) claimed third-sixth, respectively. Durell Busby of Wisconsin-Milwaukee clinched the final spot with his 13.75.

Based on his seventh-place showing, Wyatt automatically earns first-team All-America honors. He becomes just the second Highlander in program history to earn that distinction, joining Kyle Morse (hammer throw) in 2010. It was the second time in Wyatt's career he secured All-American status. Wyatt was an indoor All-American in the 60-meter hurdles in 2013.

Seeded ninth in the semifinals, Wyatt qualified for nationals based on his 13.60 he ran at the East Regional nearly two weeks ago. His top time is a Big South record for the event.

Saturday's 110-meter hurdles championship will be televised by ESPNU. Live coverage of the final day begins at 5 p.m. ET with the men's 4x100-meter relay. The men's 110-meter hurdles is slated to be the eighth track event of the day.
