WOMEN'S SOCCER TABBED SECOND IN BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford women's soccer was picked second in the 2014 Big South Preseason Poll announced the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Coming off their third regular season title in four seasons and a tournament runner-up finish, the Highlanders collected 101 points in the annual poll.

Last season, Radford went 15-3-2 overall and 10-1 in the Big South, which marked a league record for most wins. The Highlanders, under the guidance of head coach Ben Sohrabi, reached the championship match for the third straight season, but fell to Liberty in their bid for a three-peat.

Radford welcomes Miami (Ohio) tomorrow, Aug. 13 at 7:00 p.m. for a home exhibition match followed by another home exhibition against William & Mary on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

The defending champion Lady Flames were the unanimous preseason favorites, earning all 11 first-place votes and 121 points. Longwood came in third behind Radford with 90 points, while Coastal Carolina (88 points) and High Point (81 points) took the fourth and fifth spots.

Winthrop claimed the sixth spot with 77 total points, while Charleston Southern and Presbyterian College tied for seventh-place with 40 points each. Campbell garnered ninth-place with 37 points, while UNC Asheville was 10th with 28 points. Gardner-Webb finished 11th with 23 total points.

All 11 teams open the regular season on Aug. 22 with the Highlanders heading to Johnson City, Tenn. to face ETSU at 7 p.m.

The 2014 Big South Women's Soccer Championship tournament is slated for Oct. 31-Nov.9. Quarterfinal games will be hosted by the top four seeds with the semifinals (Nov. 7) and championship (Nov. 9) being held for the first time at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C.
