Radford opens its 40th season of men's soccer Friday night at Clemson with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C. The Highlanders are seeking their fourth straight winning season heading in to the 2014 campaign under fifth-year head coach Marc Reeves. The current streak of three winning seasons is the longest in over two decades (1987-91).

"We are excited to start our season at a great venue like Riggs Field and against a team I believe are primed for a great season," Reeves said. "However our focus is on us having a great performance and being ready to keep improving at this early stage of the season."

The Tigers own a storied history, especially at home. Clemson is 241-44-19 all-time at its home field. The Highlanders are 0-1-1 all-time at Clemson having lost in 1993 (8-0) and tied in 2008 (1-1). The two teams have never met elsewhere.

"We feel playing top opponents in tough environments will prepare us well, and we believe we have the players and more importantly, team to compete," Reeves said.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Clemson finished the 2013 season with an 11-7-3 record and a semifinal appearance in the ACC Tournament. The Tigers were selected for the NCAA Tournament and fell in penalty kicks to Elon in the first round.

THE HIGHLANDERS
The 2014 Radford roster reatures 14 new faces and many will be making their collegiate debut against Clemson. The Highlaners are led by Chel Ho Park Kim, who enters the season opener with six career goals and 13 assists. Ramzi Dridi owns four career goals, and Jamie Summers is the leading returning scorer from 2013 with three goals and three assists last season. Jo Vetle Rimstad is the returning all-conference selection. He was named second-team All-Big South a year ago as a freshman defender. RU will feature a new goalkeeper as well. All four keepers on the RU roster are freshmen.

Reeves spoke on his team's youth, "Several new players will get their first experience of college soccer, and we look forward to seeing how they measure up."
