WIECHECKI JOINS ELITE COMPANY AS RADFORD DOWNS MOREHEAD STATE

BOX SCORE

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Senior Rachel Wiechecki became the sixth member of Radford volleyball's 1,000/1,000 club while guiding the Highlanders to a 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22) victory over Morehead State Saturday evening in the finale of the Eagle Challenge inside Wetherby Gym.

The outside hitter joined Anne Jackson, Anne Fontaine, Katie Sherwood, Ami Orr and Laura Marcuson as the only other Highlanders in the elite club.

Wiechecki, who now has 1,060 kills and 1,005 digs, continued her double-double streak with her third of the season. She contributed 11 kills and 12 digs in the four-set affair to notch the 41st double-double of her career. Wiechecki will go for the rally-scoring kills record (1,066) on Tuesday when RU hosts N.C. Central in a 7 p.m. nonconference tilt inside the Dedmon Center.

In addition to hitting .600 with three kills, Jena Braden assisted on 29 Radford attacks. Maddie Palmer provided a spark for the Highlanders (2-1) beginning in the second set. The freshman totaled a match-high 15 digs and pounded six kills.

At the net, Wiechecki and Savannah Cantrell produced five blocks each for RU. Thanks to their efforts, the Highlanders won the blocking battle, 11-5.

A trio of Eagles finished with double-figure kills, led by Alli Evans' 11. Laura McDermott and Alex Fitzmorris cranked 10 apiece for Morehead State (0-3). Colbey Cameron charted a double-double with 21 assists and 14 digs. Hannah Sigala delivered four blocks.

Neither team found much breathing room in the opening stanza. Ahead 20-19, the Eagles made the set's only lengthy run (4-0) late in the frame to lift MSU to a 25-20 triumph.

Behind an 8-1 run, Radford erased an early 6-point deficit to claim a 16-14 edge midway through the second set. The two sides eventually battled to a 20-all tie. Wiechecki unleashed a winner on the next point to ignite a 5-0 surge that gave the Highlanders a 25-20 win.
In the third set, Palmer came to life for Radford. Back at the service line to open the stanza, Palmer fueled a 4-0 start that included a pair of aces. She put down three kills in the set as well to aid the Highlanders to a 25-17 decision.

Another hot start allowed RU to build a 7-4 advantage in the fourth frame. The Eagles countered with a 5-0 run to reclaim the lead at 9-7. With the score tied at 13, the Highlanders outscored MSU, 4-1, over the next five rallies to push in front, 17-14. The Eagles tied the set once more at 21, but Radford closed on a 4-1 spurt to clinch the match.
