HIGHLANDERS WRAP UP NON-CONFERENCE PLAY WITH KEYDETS AND MOUNTAINEERS

After a five-day break, the Radford women's soccer team returns to action this weekend as it travels to VMI on Friday and then hosts Appalachian State on Sunday. The Highlanders' final two non-conference contests kick off at 4:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
 
Last time out: Heading in to the final nonconference games of the season, the Highlanders are coming off of a 1-1 weekend home stand…. Radford got its first win of the season, 7-0, against Southern Virginia on September 12, but dropped its ensuing match to ODU, 1-0 on September 14…. Against SVU, six different Highlanders scored with senior Kara Wade notching her second multi-goal game (2) of her career… Senior Jasmine Sampson added a goal and two assists and sophomore Hannah Duff dished out her first two collegiate assists… Freshmen Nicole Petocchi and Kayla Blake tallied their first collegiate goals as well… Despites seven saves by freshman goalkeer Katie McCormick and seven shots on target, the Highlanders were edged on a late goal, falling 1-0 to the Monarchs.
 
A Look at Your Highlanders: Wade leads the team in goals this season with three and is followed closely by freshman Jordan Lundin who has two. Wade and and freshman Tori Donahue continue to lead the team with shots with 14 and 10, respectively. McCormick leads the Big South in saves (34) and saves per game (5.67).
 
Highlanders at Cupp: Radford's school record 12-game winning and 20-game undefeated streaks at Cupp Stadium came to an end on Sunday… In 2013, the Highlanders won a school-record nine matches at Cupp and went undefeated in 2012 (8-0-2) and 2013 (9-0-0)… Following its clean sheet against Southern Virginia, RU has posted 28 shutouts since the start of 2010.
 
The Keydets: Coming off a 2-0 defeat to St. Bonaventure, former Big South foe VMI is currently sitting at 1-5 on the year with their lone win coming against Howard, 2-1. The Keydets, who rejoined the Southern Conference, have scored three goals on the year and are led by Nicole Blixt with eight shots on goal.
 
The Series (VMI): The Highlanders have won the last four meetings and lead the all-time series with VMI 11-1… Radford is 5-1 against in Lexington after defeating VMI 3-0 last year.
 
The Mountaineers: Appalachian State, hailing from the Sun Belt conference, coming off a 2-0 loss at home to George Mason on Sunday…. The Mountaineers will take on James Madison on Friday in Harrisonburg before heading to Radford… ASU is led by Sam Childress, who has tallied a team-best four goals, eight points and 20 shots… Goalkeeper Megan Roberson has recorded 16 saves in 510:10 of action.
 
The Series (ASU): Sitting at four wins apiece; the winner of the upcoming match will take the lead in the all time series between these two schools… The Mountaineers have won the last three contests in a series that resumes, following an eight-year hiatus… RU and ASU last met in 2005 with the Mountaineers picking up 2-1 win in Radford… Five of the eight matches have been decided by one goal, including a pair of double overtime affairs in 2004 (ASU, 2-1) and 2001 (RU, 2-1).
