PALMER IGNITES HOT-HITTING HIGHLANDERS IN 3-0 WIN OVER MARSHALL

BOX SCORE

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Behind a season-high 15 kills and 10 digs from freshman Maddie Palmer, the Radford volleyball team swept Marshall (25-23, 25-18, 25-20) Friday afternoon in match one of the Hokie Invitational inside Cassell Coliseum.

"We took another step in the right direction today," head coach Marci Jenkins said. "The girls executed what we talked about on the scouting report. It was great to see us play at that level. We're going to need that kind of effort tomorrow against Virginia Tech and UNC Wilmington."

The Highlanders (9-3) hit .293 on the attack, while accumulating 63 digs in just three sets of action. It was the second-highest hitting percentage recorded by RU this season. The victory marked the first time the Highlanders had beaten Marshall since 1994.

Emma Deininger joined Palmer in double figures, offensively, with 11 kills at a .429 attack clip. Rachel Wiechecki paced four Highlanders with double-digit digs by notching 16. Kelby Jackson added 15 and Savanna Burton contributed 14. Jena Braden finished with a match-best 37 assists.

Marshall (5-7) was led on the attack by Ally Kiekover's 10 kills. Three players recorded double-figure digs for the Thundering Herd, led by 14 from Cassie Weaver. Lauren Legge posted a match-high three blocks.

Radford is back in action Saturday when the Highlanders take on tournament host Virginia Tech at 10 a.m. inside Cassell Coliseum. RU concludes the two-day event with a 5 p.m. match against UNC Wilmington.
