RADFORD SCORES SHUTOUT ROAD VICTORY AT ETSU

BOX SCORE |

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Radford men's soccer knocked off the defending Atlantic Sun champion on the road Saturday night defeating East Tennessee State (2-1), 1-0. Jamie Summers scored the game-winner for the Highlanders off an assist from Chel Ho Park Kim, and Aitor Pouseu Blanco posted his first career victory and shutout in goal. It was the third straight game RU (1-2) opened the season on the road against an NCAA Tournament program from last season.

9206"I am pleased with the way we prepared and performed tonight against a very good opponent on the road," Radford head coach Marc Reeves said. "ETSU is a talented and well-coached team, and we did a great job of limiting their opportunities."

After a scoreless and statistically even first half, Radford dominated the second half. RU outshot the Buccaneers 7-2 in the second half, and Summers knocked home his first tally of the season at the 58:50 mark. The assist was Park Kim's first of the season and the 14th of his career for the Highlanders.

"We showed much more desire in the attacking half of the field and were unlucky not to have scored more," Reeves said.

Pouseu Blanco recorded two saves and faced just six total shots on the night in a stellar overall performance by the Radford defensive unit.

"This gets us started," Reeves said. "Now we need to continue with the hard work and preparation to get ready for next weekend's games."

Radford travels next weekend to High Point, N.C. to face Western Illinois on Friday and Incarnate Word on Sunday in a pair of neutral site games at High Point University.
