BIG SOUTH UNBEATENS SQUARE OFF WEDNESDAY AT CUPP



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford and Longwood are set to meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a Big South men's soccer tilt at Cupp Stadium.
  • The in-state foes are two of the remaining five unbeaten teams (in league play) within the conference.
  • RU prevailed, 5-0, over the Lancers last season in Farmville, Va.
  • Longwood defeated the Highlanders, 1-0, the last time these two sides played in Radford. The Lancers scored just 32 seconds into that match.
  • Wednesday's conference contest will feature two of the Big South's top freshmen in Radford's Sivert Daehlie and Longwood's Willy Miezan.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 7-1-1, 2-0-0 Big South
  • Radford has ascended to No. 44 in the latest RPI rankings.
  • Eleven of the Highlanders' league-leading 19 goals scored this season are by underclassmen.
  • In addition to being the Big South leader in goals scored, RU ranks second in shots per game (16.78).
  • After notching a goal and an assist last Wednesday against UNC Asheville, Jamie Summers takes over the team lead in points with nine.
  • Daehlie ranks second among Big South freshmen in goals scored (four).
  • Evan Szklennik has taken a team-best 25 shots up top for RU, with 11 of those being on frame.
  • Radford is off to its best start since the 1995 season when the team opened with a 10-1-1 record.
  • The Highlanders are 4-0-1 at home this season.
 
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
  • Record: 5-3-0, 1-0-0 Big South
  • The Lancers have won two in a row, which includes a 2-1 victory over Campbell in their Big South opener at home on Sept. 27.
  • With five wins, Longwood has already eclipsed its win total from the 2014 season when the team finished 4-14-1.
  • Miezan leads the Lancers and Big South freshmen with his seven goals scored. He tallied a hat trick in his first collegiate game on Aug. 28 against VMI.
  • Longwood is 2-1 on the road this season (lone loss was to UNC Greensboro, 3-1).
