RADFORD MEETS FAMILIAR FOE IN BIG SOUTH QUARTERFINALS



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford collides with Gardner-Webb for the second time in over two weeks Tuesday in a Big South men's soccer quarterfinal at Cupp Stadium.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
  • Marc Reeves is 6-1-1 against the Runnin' Bulldogs as Radford's head coach. Two of those wins came in overtime.
  • The Highlanders have defeated GWU six straight times, including a 5-0 triumph on Senior Night (Oct. 23) earlier this season.
  • Sivert Daehlie scored twice in that match, including the game-winner in the 28th minute.
  • RU and the Runnin' Bulldogs met in the Big South quarterfinals in 2012 and 2013—both won by the Highlanders.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 13-2-2
  • Radford ranks No. 20 in the latest RPI rankings and is receiving votes in the NSCAA coaches' poll.
  • Twenty-five of the Highlanders' league-leading 38 goals scored this season are by underclassmen.
  • In addition to being the Big South leader in goals scored, RU ranks first in assists per game (2.18) and second in shots per game (16.71).
  • Radford's 2.24 goals per game are tied for seventh in the nation.
  • RU has eight shutouts in 2015, which rank second in the league. The team ended the regular season with four straight clean sheets, which included matches against No. 10 Coastal Carolina and No. 21 Elon.
  • Radford has not allowed a goal since the 12th minute of the High Point match on Oct. 17—438-minute shutout streak.
  • Sivert Daehlie leads the Highlanders with 24 points (11 goals, two assists), which rank third among conference players.
  • Daehlie ranks third in the Big South and tied for 11th, nationally, in goals scored.
  • Radford is coming off a 2-0 victory over No. 21 Elon last Wednesday on the road.
  • By finishing the Big South slate at 7-1-1, the Highlanders secured a share of their sixth conference regular-season championship.
  • Daehlie has taken a team-best 46 shots up top for RU, with 25 of those being on frame.
  • Evan Szklennik is the Big South leader in assists with seven.
  • The Highlanders are 7-0-1 at home this season.
 
SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
  • Record: 4-13
  • The Runnin' Bulldogs endured an eight-match losing skid, before winning back-to-back Big South tilts against Liberty and UNC Asheville.
  • They lost four of their final five games to end the regular season.
  • Gardner-Webb has allowed the most goals (53) by any Big South team.
  • GWU has given up at least four goals in a match nine times this season.
  • Marvin Mendy is the Runnin' Bulldogs leading goal scorer with four on the year.
  • Gardner-Webb is 2-7-0 on the road for the 2015 campaign.
