
HAYDEN TIES FOR SECOND, RADFORD TAKES THIRD AT BASH AT THE BEACH

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior Conner Hayden notched his fourth Top 10 of the season, and the Radford men's golf team placed third following Tuesday's final round of the Bash at the Beach. Appalachian State hosted the two-day, 54-hole tournament at The Surf Golf and Beach Club (par 71, 6,741 yards).

For the second straight day, Hayden and redshirt senior Ryan Rettberg paced the Highlanders with under-par rounds. Hayden delivered a 1-under-par 70 to finish at 7-under-par 206 (69-67-70). His 54-hole ledger is a collegiate best for the Chilhowie, Va., native.

Hayden finished one stroke shy of claiming his second individual title as a Highlander. Ryan Cole of James Madison held on down the stretch to capture medalist honors at 8-under-par 205 (67-69-69).

Rettberg carded the Highlanders' best final round with a 3-under-par 68. The Front Royal, Va., native tied for fifth at 5-under-par 208 (72-68-68) to secure his fourth Top 10 of the season.

Nick Brediger (218) tied for 28th, Callum Cochrane (222) tied for 43rd and Conner Lewis (227) tied for 65th to round out the Radford lineup.

On the strength of Cole's individual title, JMU topped the team leaderboard with its 11-under-par 841 (280-282-279). West Georgia was five shots behind at 846, eight swings clear of the Highlanders' third-place scorecard.

RU is next in action March 22-24 at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at Kingsmill Resort's River Course.
